Taking 15 minutes out of drone delivery. As the sole designer, I designed Prime Air’s ground operations software from 0→1, cutting loading from 60 to 45 minutes and supporting expansion from 2 to 11 cities.

Designing software for the physical world
Ground Operations
Prime Air was developing a new generation of drone delivery, and the operation around it was changing just as quickly. New aircraft and facility workflows meant rethinking how operators, packages, batteries, drones, and software worked together.
I worked alongside Prime Air’s industrial designer and ground-operations teams to map the emerging physical workflow, then translate it into a software experience that could evolve alongside the operation.

Mapping the operation before designing the software
I worked alongside industrial design and ground operations to understand how people, packages, batteries, and drones moved through a rapidly evolving delivery system.
Turning scattered tools into guided workflows
Drone Center
Operators were moving through a physical facility while jumping between tools to understand what was available and what needed to happen next. The software reflected individual systems rather than the job an operator was trying to complete.
I reorganized the experience around guided workflows, turning complex operating procedures into a sequence of actions that followed operators through loading, launching, and turning around a drone.

Getting a drone from package to launch
I designed a guided workflow that brought the steps required to load and launch a drone into one operational experience.
Designing for work that doesn't happen at a desk
Designing for a live aviation operation meant every interaction had constraints beyond usability. I worked across engineering, operations, industrial design, and legal to turn those constraints into product decisions as the operating model evolved, balancing what was technically possible, operationally practical, and appropriate for the environment.
Because the physical workflow was still changing, the system couldn't assume one rigid path. I designed the experience to accommodate an operation that was continuing to evolve around it.

Software that moved with the operator
Critical workflows followed operators away from the desk and into the facility, including the specialized handheld hardware they carried alongside packages and aircraft.

Designed alongside the physical operation
I partnered with Prime Air’s industrial designer as new aircraft and ground workflows took shape, evolving the digital experience alongside the physical system.
Making drone operations faster
Operational Impact
The measure of success wasn't how quickly someone could navigate the interface, it was how efficiently the entire operation could move.
The resulting workflow reduced drone loading from 60 minutes to 45 minutes, taking 15 minutes out of a critical step in Prime Air delivery.

60 → 45 min. 25% faster drone loading.
From my teammates at Amazon
Jon’s holistic approach led him to initiate improvements that extended beyond the product’s defined scope. His customer-centered process, ownership mentality, and results-driven approach made him a valuable asset to the team.
Senior UX DesignerAlex Stremiakov Jon drove the UX exercise for the project, demonstrating great customer obsession and insisting on the highest standards by iterating and evolving the designs for a better customer experience.
SDE ManagerMayank Kunawat I'm very impressed with Jon's UX design work. He developed an intuitive, simple, and flexible UX for our operations software based on inputs from stakeholders and customers. He demonstrated ownership by thinking long term and developing a product that will adapt to all types of changes. Very excited to see the final product in action!
